Victorinox Soldiers

The Soldier from Victorinox is the official Swiss Army Knife (until 2007, at least and with its Wenger’s cousin) and is one of the best EDC knife available today.

Compact, sturdy, very classy and dressy, it got a slighty buffier blade than its celluloid’s brothers from the Officier series. The selection of tools is very well thought for most of everyday “emergencies” : a good blade to cut, a sturdy screwdriver to screw, opening beers and levering (you have no obligation to follow this order), a can opener which can be used as a Philips screwdriver, and an awl (which can be used as a wine bottle opener if a true corkscrew isn’t available).

Its lack of tweezers and toothpick isn’t a big deal if you can carry a Classic model on your keychain.

The black Soldier that I bought on eBay seems to be a limited edition of the silver Soldier, but it’s not a standard issue. Belonging from the Alox series, it’s devoid of millésime on the back of the blade but got a ring to secure it and a little space on the waffle pattern of the right handle to engrave something.

If you want to go out classy but prepared, this particular variation on a swiss classic is the way to go. But the hunt risks to be difficult, since there is not a lot available.
