La Croix-Rouge américaine distribue un accessoire utile pour les environnements de travail ou les sacs de personnes faisant des trajets dans les transports en commun, le Safety Tube.

L’objet se présente sous la forme d’un simple tube de 15 cm de long, fermé aux extrémités par deux bouchons en plastique et contenant un sifflet, une tube cyalume (repérage et signalisation), un masque anti-poussières et une poche d’eau (de 125 ml).

Je trouve le concept excellent, il ne manque à mon goût qu’un petit couteau, mais normalement, il doit être dans la poche déjà. Un seul bémol : plutôt qu’un Cyalume qui peut se périmer et qui n’est pas très pratique à utiliser (on ne peut pas l’éteindre, par exemple, et il est consommable), je pense qu’il aurait mieux valu mettre dans le kit une petite lampe à diode type Photon, elles ne coûtent pas plus cher que les Cyalume, elles sont réutilisables et on peut changer leur batterie, le cas échéant.

Le tube est livré avec un patch de velcro pour pouvoir le fixer sous une table ou contre une paroi.

The 6″-tube content is a dust-mask, a cyalume-like chemical light, a whistle and a 4.227 Fl. oz (1/8 US Qt.) water pouch for emergency hydratation. You can use the velcro patch to stock it under a table or against a wall, for exemple.
It just lack a little knife, but you’re probably carry one int your pocket. I think a simple Photon-like keychain light would have been a better choice over the Cyalume-lime. Cyalume have a very short store-life (about three years), is best at standard temperatures, can’t be turned off and isn’t a great lighting device (best for signaling). A lithium CR2016 or CR2032 keychain light acn have a useful light longer than a cyalume, a 10 years shelf-life, can be turned off, and its floodlight is way better than the blinding chemical light of the Cyalume.
It cost only $ 5 in Red Cross stores.
